UNIEK (Tommy)

Picture
Poppy on Tommy
Tommy arrived on 1st April this year.  He was very laid back to handle, but completely stressed out under saddle.  He had been permanently strapped up with a market harborough or draw reins and just lurched around in a very manic manner.  Despite having passed a 5 star vetting he was clearly a horse who was very uncomfortable.  Our vet said that he had been wearing an ill fitting saddle which had left him with a sore back, but that it didn't seem to be anything more serious.  We had a new saddle fitted and bought him a gel pad.  He started to improve, but never quite relaxed.  After having further back treatment, he is now only being lunged to build up his back muscles in the right place.  He is a wonderful, talented horse who could take Poppy to the top in showjumping - we just need to get his back right and bring him on slowly.  He is a really long-term project.  Click picture to see more about Tommy.

Little Mavros

Mavros and Poppy clearing the Puissance Wall
Mavros joined us in 2006.  He is 13.2 hh and is now 11 years old.  He is truly amazing.  In all the time we have had him he has never exhibited any vices.  He was affiliated to JC level by the age of 7 but we have only jumped him unaffiliated for the last 4 years.  He started out with Poppy at the age of 10, jumping 1ft 6 courses and they ended their career together flying round and winning over courses of 3ft 3.  They also picked up 3rd in the Open Puissance two years ago, clearing the Puissance Wall at 4ft 3" (picture attached).  In addition to jumping Mavros does everything else (cross country, hunting, hacking, gymkhana) and Poppy also broke him to harness and uses him in a trotting cart to rake and roll the woodchip school.  Poppy has now outgrown Mavros and moved on to Tommy.  Sadly, Mavros suffered a tendon injury in the field in the beginning of the year and is currently awaiting an operation.  In the meantime he is having a very relaxing summer, hanging out with the big horses and bossing them all about (apart from Tommy who has taken over as head of the herd).  Click picture for more on Mavros.

Little Brazil (Zeddy)

Picture
Poppy and Brazil
Little Brazil is a 17.2 hh, 9 year old thoroughbred gelding.  He has been with us since July 2010.  He had a very successful 2010 season Point to Pointing, picking up two thirds, a fourth and a fifth out of six runs last season before we bought him.  He is settling into his new life with us really well, hacking out, schooling and learning to show jump, which was quite a challenge for him at first.  He is a really kind gentleman in every way.  He has an amazing racing pedigree with one of his ancestors winning the Prix de l'arc de triomphe two years in a row.  We are hoping to get him back in to training for point to point to see how he goes.  For more about Little Brazil .... click on picture
